Frenectomy

A frenectomy is a safe, quick, and often laser-guided dental procedure that releases a tight, restrictive frenulum (tongue-tie or lip-tie) to improve mobility. Used to address breastfeeding difficulties, speech issues, and potential spacing concerns, it allows for better tongue/lip movement.

Common Reasons for a Pediatric Frenectomy

  • Tongue-Tie (Ankyloglossia): The tissue under the tongue restricts movement, making it hard for infants to lift or extend their tongue.

  • Lip-Tie: The tissue behind the upper lip is too tight, potentially creating a gap between front teeth or causing pain during nursing.

  • Feeding Issues: Difficulty latching, poor weight gain, or painful breastfeeding for the mother.

  • Speech and Oral Hygiene: Helping with speech development and aiding in better cleaning of teeth to prevent decay
